Parental Control and the Internet Probably every parent wants to be a supportive guardian while protecting his child from being exposed to inappropriate web content. The problem is that the subtle line between safeguarding and spying may be difficult to delineate. It seems like many parents, especially those having teenagers, tend to choose a liberal strategy fearing to overdo the monitoring and spoil the relationship their children. However, I believe, a permissive approach can lead to a situation where the Internet use becomes utterly detrimental for a child; therefore, parents should curtail all online activities not relating to education. The broad range of potential risks a child could be exposed to, while surfing the Internet, do not leave a place to even a little compromise. Current Web is much like a real life has its murky side with its crime and fraud. Quite accidentally children end up viewing inappropriate websites containing pornography, gambling, swearing, and violence. While discovering those resources, a child cannot estimate possible future implications which can affect his future. On the contrary, he may think that he is learning about real life and becoming more experienced. For instance, a 12 years old boy will scarcely be able to foresee that watching pornography can translate to a life term addiction and completely ruin his sexual life. Obviously, those certain online encounters can be excessively detrimental for young impressionable minds.
